Rich Gemmell

This work is produced by Rich Gemmell, who is a freeland illustrator working in the UK. He has worked with with many clients such as the Guardian, and Future Snowboarding Magazine. The images above are inspired by a journey around Scotland. I love the combination of textures he used within the work, giving it a real three dimensional aesthetic quality. The main bulk of the image is often the background, with a smaller figure placed cleverly within, i feel that this helps the viewer to look deeper into the image and doesn’t discard it. I am very interested in using this technique within my own work, as i often tend to complicate and over work the main aspect/character of the peice.

It is officially only one month untill christmas. I need to start making christmas cards and getting ideas for pressies. I have found lots of pretty things illustrated by Susie Ghahremani on www.boygirlparty.com/shoppe… although my sister insists on having the new JLS album and calendar….! I want the recipe cards with the hummingbirds on, they would accompany my new jamie oliver paraphernalia perfectly :)  The magnets are cute aswell, however in an ideal world i would like to create my own, i have no idea where i could get hold of some empty magnet holders though? Have a look at Susie Ghahremani’s blog at http://boygirlparty.livejournal.com/

Childrens cookbook

Alison Legg - Childrens Cookbook

Alison Legg - Seafood

Alison Legg - Seafood

The images created in Alison Leggs work are absoultely beautiful! I love the way that she has used a range of papers to enhance an organic homemade feel about the work. The images look very professional and have been created brilliantly. The use of colour in the work is also very interesting as there is a combination of earthy natural tones with the odd splash of red/blue/green to draw attention to the image. I have been looking at Jamie Oliver’s magazines/cookbooks and have been very inspired by the work inside, i feel that the images here by Alison Legg are very similar and could be equally as sucessfull. Check out her website to see more of her work: www.alisonlegg.co.uk

United Thread Winter Owls

United Thread - Winter Owls

United Thread - Stack of Owls

These  images have been created by United Thread, an independant artist from Salem, MA. She has drawn the images with high quality inks and gouache on archival heavy weight printmaking paper. I like the use of simple line which has been effective in adding detail to the image. The absence of black lines in ‘Winter Owls’ is interesting as it adds another dynamic to the image, without having to block fill colour. They can be bought on her Etsy store for around $25 each: http://www.etsy.com/shop/unitedthread
